21 Day Fast Day 14

Today is Week 2 day 14 of our 21 Day Fast, January 21, 2024.
In Paul’s letter to the Colossians he begins by commending them for their faith and telling them that the Father has qualified them to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Then he speaks of the supremacy of Christ and goes on to tell them he wants them to have the full riches of complete understanding so they could know the mystery of God, namely, Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He didn’t want them to be deceived by fine-sounding arguments and goes on to describe the truths about Jesus as well as the ways people are going to attack them spiritually. All of this is amazing and should be studied. Which brings me to his path to holy living. It’s one thing to know about God, it’s another to be absorbed in him.

Colossians 3:1-10 (ESV) 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

The way we get rid of those wrong behaviors is the same way we get darkness to flee… you turn on the light. We take God at his Word and obey him. If we dwell on the negative it stays with us and grows. We have to do what Paul goes on to say. We need to change our clothes and put on the new ones.

Colossians 3:12-17 (ESV) 12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Philippians 4:8-9 (ESV) 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
