21 Day Fast Day 2

Today is day 2 of our 21 Day Fast, January 9, 2024.
 
I want to re-post this timely explanation of fasting. I’ve highlighted the 2nd sentence describing what should happen during a fast. Read on…“Fasting is the biblical practice of abstaining from something as a spiritual discipline meant to help us focus on spiritual matters.” Usually this is done with food, but can be anything that accomplishes an awareness of self-deprivation. It’s not meant to be easy, but rather to awaken the consciousness of our need for the presence of God in our lives.

Ask the Lord what he would have you fast. Pray about that and step out in faith as we believe together for God to speak to us individually and corporately. It’s not meant to be easy. That would not accomplish in us what the Lord would like to do.
 
Yesterday I listed 7 scripture verses to meditate on during this first week. You made it through the 1st day. It’s not unusual for someone to forget they’re fasting and just grab that snack without thinking about it. Then it dawns on them! It happens. We live busy lives. Don’t get down on yourself, just ask the Lord for the strength and wisdom to go the distance. These first two verses can be helpful to pray over;

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous (God is the one who gives us the strength and courage to do his will. You can do it!)
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (We can second guess ourselves so easily, but God wants us to put our trust in him and not overthink it. “I can do what God says I can do! He said he would not leave us or forsake us.”
 
This following is a great Apostolic Prayer by the Apostle Paul. Take it to heart and be encouraged.
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV) 20  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding

Psalm 34:6 Taste and see that the Lord is good

Ephesians 6:2  "Honor your father and mother"

Philippians 4:1 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
