21 Day Fast Day 18

I trust you’re doing well. The sacrifices Jesus made for us are so incredible. We could project our own thoughts on Christ’s divinity and think it was probably easier for him to do what he did because he is God. But stop for a moment to think that his thoughts, feelings, emotions and mind are so beyond ours. We can easily gloss over the immense sacrifices he made. The love that he had was perfect. Let’s not forget that he was a MAN just like us. Hebrews 4:15 (NIV) 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.

(Let’s try to really empathize with what he went through.)

Matthew 26:36-39 (NIV)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

The sorrow he felt was so overwhelming that he felt like he was about to die!!! He was about to be separated from his Father and it was more than he could bear, but he said, “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” He was an obedient son. He’s called us to follow in his footsteps. His love for us is beyond description. As we embrace who we are called to be in him, let’s press on and be a catalyst in our communities to let his love shine through us!

1 Peter 2:4-5 (NIV)
4  As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- 5  you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 13:15-16 (NIV)
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Romans 12:1 (NIV)
1  Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

1 Peter 2:19-21 (NIV)
19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.  21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)
17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Love and blessings,

Pastor Ray
