21 Day Fast Day 7
Today is the Lord’s Day and the 7th day of our fast. God rested on the 7th day. He was setting a precedent for us. We need rest but the real rest we need is Jesus. He is our Sabbath rest. We can get anxious about so many things and allow worry to capture our hearts and minds. Jesus wants us to look to him, trusting that he is really in control. I heard someone say that the greatest waste of time he experienced was all the worrying he did about things that never came to be. When we fix our eyes on Jesus he will lead us and direct us on the path we need to be. Worry, BE GONE! Faith gives us the victory. We are more than conquerors through him who loved us! (Romans 8:37)
If you find yourself getting downcast, feeling anxious, feeling dull and not yourself, these are things that can happen during an extended fast. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. There are many Bible stories with people that felt the same thing. We press through and God will lift us up! He allows us to go through these things in life to make us stronger as we open our hearts to his will.
In our prayer meeting last Tuesday I read from John 17. I didn’t read the whole chapter for the sake of time but I wanted to key in on some vital things that Jesus said concerning us. He was talking to his Father about his disciples, but then included the people who his disciples would lead to the Lord. John 17: 20ff “I do not ask for these only but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.’
There is so much meaning here, probably more than we can comprehend, but this is Jesus talking about us! We are the “those who will believe in me through their word.” Can you agree with God’s word through faith and ask him to do just what Jesus said he wanted done? (I encourage you to read all of John 17)
Fasting helps us to enter the deeper realm. May God continually bless us as we continue to grow in his love.
Love in Christ,
Pastor Ray
